about
‘The Moon Underwater’ is a new spoken word song made in lockdown by musicians from the bands Gramme, Melt Yourself Down, 10Tigers and The Penguin Cafe, who have come together from make-shift studios in their own homes to make new music in quarantine. All proceeds go to the charity Music Support UK, created ‘by the industry for the industry’ to support people at all levels of the music industry through mental health and addiction issues.
A project conceived by Johnny de’Ath of 10Tigers and Gramme, in collaboration with Luke Hannam, Sam Lynham and Dave Bateman of Gramme, Pete Wareham of Melt Yourself Down and Andy Waterworth of The Penguin Cafe.
‘The Moon Underwater’ is a beautiful and poignant tapestry of sound woven together by musicians who can’t be the same room but can still celebrate the language of music.
The title is taken from George Orwell who famously wrote on the subject of ‘freedom’ and refers to his essay on ‘The Moon Underwater,’ his perfect pub.
